Tips for…
Work and meetings – Paid work

Keep using IT equipment, and keep on handwriting letters or notes. Use the skills regularly.

Talk to your employer bout your dementia.

(Watch this short film by Young Dementia UK here).

At work meetings, volunteer to take the notes, if you are up to it, so you remember what happened. You will also have the notes to keep! Type them straight into a tablet.

I told my work team about my diagnosis by taking them through my version of a Dementia Friends session. I asked them to help me to help them. (Watch Des O’Sullivan’s film ‘Living a New Life’)

Join a trade union if you are still in employment. Immediately.

If you are still employed at the time of your diagnosis (or if you want a paid job later), remember  it is your legal right to have reasonable adjustments made to your working hours or days, and to your conditions. You may ask for, or accept, a change in your responsibilities too, so you can keep working.
