Health issues & symptoms – Noise and hearing

As families start to meet up, the noise will increase once more. We’ve had quiet for so long that noise may be disturbing. Be prepared for this. Let people know if noise is an issue. Don’t be afraid to take yourself away from the hubbub. Do what’s best for you.

Try to keep social groups small (about 6-8), especially when going out.

If you are in a noisy setting, like a pub or meeting place or shops, just leave and find somewhere quiet to gather your thoughts. Put your own needs first.

If you experience heightened sensitivity to noise, ask your GP to refer you to audiology. Many people with dementia have hyperaccusis, but may not realise it.
